TRAIL REPORT 2/23/2021
Trail Conditions: Good
Riding reports over the past weekend were very good, even as the temps began to rise.
We are still grooming nightly. Since we are not always able to hit our entire system every night, we're usually getting to each trail at least every other night. We've received a couple fresh inches of snow since Sunday and that has helped clean up some of the snirt. It is still very dry and not packing well. There is supposed to be another 2-4" coming overnight tonight. With the warmer temps, this "should be" a much needed wet snow! Frankly, 2" of wet snow does us more good than 10" of fluff. With temps expected to drop below freezing for the next couple days, we should hang on to some really good riding conditions!
I still maintain that 70% of our system is in very good condition, with some sections being excellent (the northern parts of trails 51 and 7). 20% is good condition, and 10% (mainly closer to towns) is fair. This forecasted snow should improve these conditions.
The portage between Plum and Star lakes was groomed last night and left in very good condition. Of course, this trail gets pounded with traffic, so it's hard to say how long it will stay good. Again, this is NOT a funded trail and our club DOES NOT get compensated for grooming it, which is why it doesn't get groomed as often as the rest of our system.
Logging operations are continuing throughout the northwoods and in many areas where snowmobile trails are located. Loggers have first priority! PLEASE be respectful of them and make every attempt to stay out of their way. DO NOT engage with them. Loggers have a legal right to close any snowmobile trail where they are working. They are being cooperative with the clubs and working with us the best they can. PLEASE do not give them reason to close the trails.
Hintz’s North Star Lodge is currently closed. Therefore, we have closed the trail leading to their establishment. If and when they are open for business, we will reopen that trail. Please respect them by not riding across their property.
Thank you for your patience and support. Ride Right and Stay Safe!
