Trail Conditions: Fair
Snow Cover: 4″ Average – On The Trails
Area Report: Our trails right now are fair on average. Heavy holiday traffic took a heavy toll on our trails. Had it not been for the colder temps for most of the week – they would have been total junk by this past Friday. The temps yesterday (Saturday) did get up near 30 – and it HURT! Thankfully we got a heavy white platinum paint job last night, receiving 1 1/2 to 2 inches of new snow. Its not a lot but anything is better than nothing and will definitely help. It will depend on how much traffic we still have today (Sunday), as to how much good it actually does. Please watch out for icy corners. Last week they were pretty much all blown out. We always pull as much snow back in as possible but it won’t take much traffic to blow them back out again – even with the new snow.
Plum and Star Lakes are both in pretty good shape. We still always advise caution and be prepared for anything. Ice heaves and slush pockets can develop quickly. You could cross in the morning and be greeted on your return trip at night to a big bump(s) or a deep slush pocket(s).
There are still on going logging operations happening between the following intersection numbers; 205 & 353 on trail 6/10/11 and on 11/51 between 344 & 352. Out in that area, there are also logging trucks using Vandercook Rd, which is a Cross Country Cruisers trail. Trucks are hauling out from a lot of areas – so PLEASE be ready at all times to get out of their way! Get off to the side if you can or turn around as quickly as you can. These loggers are not out there to ruin your snowmobiling experience. They are out there trying to make a living. While they do plow snow off the trail, we ARE working with them the best we can, to leave as much snow on the trail as they can! There ARE LOGGING AHEAD SIGNS. Pay attention – heed their warning – SLOW DOWN!!!
As always, PLEASE RIDE SAFE!!! Expect the unexpected. Respect especially the groomers and also other riders. You are not the only one on the trail, so always expect traffic to be coming at you around every corner. Slow down and ride another day!!!
We have 15 groomer drivers this year, as usual, led by trail boss Dennis Horan. All of our drivers do an awesome job. Please give them a thank you if you see one of them somewhere!
